About the Law & Society Major
The Law and Society major
seeks to understand law and legal institutions from a broad range of perspectives.
Courses are taken from a wide variety of disciplines such as Anthropology, Black
Studies, Chicano Studies, Communication, Economics, Environmental Studies, History,
Philosophy, Psychology, Religious Studies, and of course, Law and Society. The
study of each discipline contributes unique insights and knowledge about law
and society, and gives students the opportunity to choose courses that meet
their interests. Upon entering the University, students are first admitted to
the Pre-Law and Society major. Students may advance to full major standing after
fulfilling all the pre-major courses and grade requirements as listed on the
pre-major sheet. Students may declare a Pre-Law and Society major after they
have completed at least two courses from the pre-major courses with a 2.5 GPA
or above. Students must complete all the pre-major courses in Area A with a
combined GPA of 2.5 and other preparation electives in order to declare the
full major.
